It has become something of a tradition that in the fall and winter sangha members gather for a discussion group. Over a few months, on one Thursday a month, a member will lead a discussion about a text or a set of sutras. There is no expectation that the discussion leader be an expert in the field, just someone who is able to shed a little light on a given text, help make connections to practice, pose some thought-provoking questions, and be responsible for gently keeping the discussion on task.
Recent discussion groups have focused on Grace Schireson's Zen Women, Śāntideva's Bodhicaryāvatāra, and sutras from the Middle-Length Discourses of the Buddha.
Anyone interested in leading a discussion group in the future should speak with the Head of Zendo to get it on the calendar.
